I finished the piecing today. It is an experiment in combining patterns and colors based on a Weeks Ringle workshop I attended a couple of months ago. I am not sure Weeks Ringle would care to take responsibility for the result, although it does look better in person than it does in this photo. As a friend said about the quinoa served at a recent quilting retreat, "It's not horrible." This was just something to play around with (and it was entirely from scraps I already had) while I waited for the fabric to arrive for my next project which is a portrait of my sister-in-law's cat. Here's the design:
It's based on a photograph that she took, although I replaced the window that was in the background with swirly fabric, pulled the figures closer together and cropped it. Can you believe her cat posed for this picture?
I plan to use fusible applique and fabric paint to get a fairly realistic look. I will post it when I am done.
